Nothing But Treble, Elgin’s premiere treble choir, will present Brightest & Best on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at 7:00 p.m., at the First Congregational Church of Elgin, 256 E. Chicago St., Elgin. (Suggested donation: $20.00.)

The performance will feature a wide range of music composed and/or arranged by American, Canadian, British, and Scottish composers. Pieces range from a 15th-century madrigal to a 21st-century arrangement of the traditional hymn, “Brightest and Best,” performed in an Appalachian folk style. Peter Schickele, writing as PDQ Bach, adds his usual tongue-in-cheek spirit to a song he titled “Throw the Yule Log On, Uncle John”—with the commas before “Uncle John” being strictly optional throughout the piece.

We are especially pleased to perform a contemporary piece written by Chicago area composer and performer Reid Spears. Former Elgin Children Chorus singers may remember him as their accompanist!

Nothing But Treble celebrates connections between women of different generations and walks of life, and a variety of musical backgrounds. Kathi Bernhard, a gifted conductor and vocal coach, is NBT’s musical director. Programming includes outstanding repertoire for treble voices, often featuring women composers and music from diverse cultures. Interested singers may contact Kathi Bernhard at nbtelgin@gmail.com. Nothing But Treble welcomes all adult treble voices.
